Re: A Sad Day for (Project) Freedom
All,
I can’t believe that we have let ourselves down so badly. I just got off the phone with Martin and to say that he is furious is the understatement of the decade. Tricia says she has never seen me so angry or so despondent and I feel badly let down by you all.
I’m still trying to process how we could have got to a point where our senior, yes SENIOR leadership are unable to deliver the ideas and services from their teams for a major pitch opportunity. Am I to understand that we have a bunch of people whose “belief system” gets in the way of supporting the agency that hired them in the first place? Since when does shoring up the Second Amendment of the United Sates Constitution take second place to a bunch of frankly adolescent “ideals” and political beliefs?
I had zero degrees of sympathy when the creative team didn’t want to work on the Seamen Soaps brand because of their (mistaken) squeamishness about their testing on animals. And I mightily struggled with our reluctance to participate on the pitch for Chick-fil-A (because they don’t open on a Sunday, if I remember that occasion rightly?), but to surrender this huge opportunity for our business to the prevailing cancel culture is beyond the pale.
You might want to let people know that Cancel Culture may very well equal Canceled Paychecks going forward.
Luckily for OmniMedia, they were able to substitute us for a more amenable Group design agency that’s based in the Carolinas. I was able to share my ideas with their team and they collaborated with Deeper State for the pitch on Monday.
Let’s go ahead with our Leadership Team socially distanced meeting in Bryant Park tomorrow, by which time I will have hopefully calmed down and we can talk about how we grow our revenue as well as tackle some of these cultural issues that are pervading our business.
Olli, I know the NY carry laws don’t allow you to bring the AR-15 that you should have used for the photo shoot, so you need to get on that and arrange for its return to HQ. Somebody signed for that in your household, so let’s not add insult to injury to our parent company.
Yours in disappointment,
Elliott
